The purpose of the list is to serve as a guide for our schools to celebrate all families and students. The list specifically highlights groups that have not previously been celebrated or recognized, and are specific to our community.
Our guidelines for choosing observances were that they could not be religiously founded. Special Emphasis Programs were used as a starting point for selecting observances. Employee groups or academic areas of recognition are identified when a school group’s state or national professional association has defined an observance or an official proclamation has been made.
