St. Anthony-New Brighton families,

That light at the end of the tunnel that we continue to focus on—it’s here! Not just for our seniors who are graduating, but for all of us. This past year has been an incredible journey. One could only describe it as physically, intellectually and emotionally challenging. All of us navigate hardship in different ways. I often remind myself, my staff, and our students that we can do difficult things. And we showed up strong and determined to make this school year purposeful and memorable. 

Being as unpredictable as this year was, it provided an opportunity to challenge ourselves to find creative ways to show up for our students and their varying needs. As a community, we rallied around them, offering up support to the best of our abilities. And as educators, we take this to heart. This is our main purpose— to support and inspire our students to be the best version of themselves. 

Although we didn’t get everything “right” this school year, I know every staff member made decisions in the best interest of students, and their learning/safety was at the forefront. The staff were selfless in this pursuit. They placed the needs of our students before their personal needs (health/wellness), and sometimes even above the health and wellness of their own families. There were many late nights, early mornings, and missed birthdays. Again, this entire group was selfless— always placing the needs of our students first. I am forever grateful to these staff members.

As the daughter of Marion (my Italian mother), it was ingrained in me from a young age that when things get hard you have a choice. You can focus on the negative, or you can work hard and be grateful for what you have. And I began the 2020-21 school year challenging staff to do the same. I am also challenging our community. We have much to be proud of and grateful for.  Let's continue to focus on what we have gained this year, and where we are headed. At St. Anthony-New Brighton, we have staff and families that are dedicated to learning that is rigorous and relevant, and steeped in relationships. Our kids are learning in a loving, caring environment where they are consistently challenged and supported. 

When you thank your child’s teachers this week (they are incredible!), please find a way to also honor and thank the following selfless staff members:

My mother also taught me to care deeply for those you love. I love our students, our staff, and this community. This love and care means I will continue to show up, work hard, and challenge myself and those around me to do the same each school year.
