The St. Anthony - New Brighton (SANB) School Board would like to announce the resignation of Board Director Lynne Penke Valdes. Below is her letter of resignation which will be read at the June 21, 2022, school board meeting.

Dear Board Chair Oksnevad, fellow Board Directors, Superintendent Corneille, and the St. Anthony-New Brighton community:

This letter is to inform you that I will be resigning as School Board Director representing St. Anthony-New Brighton Schools effective August 15, 2022. I am fully committed to serving our district until that date, including but not limited to board meetings, committees, and other obligations.

The pandemic has impacted us as a school community in many ways, and as individuals, its impact on each of us has looked different depending on our individual circumstances.  None of us could have predicted how these past two years would change things in our personal and professional lives.

For me and my family, this has meant a new job opportunity which has me working in greater Minnesota. While I’ve been able to travel and split my time in a way that has been manageable these past few months, our family has discerned that it is not sustainable. Thus, we will be relocating to a new community in preparation for the new school year. This has been a painful decision for us, as we love this community of which we have been a part for 20 years.

Serving our community has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Working with each of you has afforded me opportunities to learn and grow.  I’m thankful for each of you, and the work we’ve done together. Providing a safe and loving, quality educational experience is the most important work there is. Thank you for allowing me to make my most humble contribution.

Thank you, Lynne, for your service to the St. Anthony - New Brighton School District. We are thankful for your commitment in engaging each child at heart level, shining a light on their brilliance and inspiring the capacity to thrive in a world that is not yet fully known.

The School Board recognizes the importance of filling the vacancy as soon as possible. In the upcoming June 21, 2022, board meeting, the board will develop an application to fill the director position. The application will open later this summer and further information will be announced after next week’s meeting.
