Andrew Hodges and family

We are happy to announce that Andrew Hodges has been chosen as the Interim-Principal for the 2021-22 school year at St. Anthony Village High School (SAVHS). Andrew will begin on July 1.

For the past two years, Andrew served as the principal at the Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School with St. Paul Public Schools. Prior to that, he was a principal in Denver Public Schools and an assistant principal for six years and worked at various levels, from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. His career in education began as a middle school social studies teacher.

“I'm really excited to get to work at SAVHS, and focus on how we bring the mission and vision to life through developing relationships and engaging students, staff and family. I’m proud to join such a strong community,” said Andrew.

“I believe that a solid education is built upon relationships and personalizing learning for each student. And, with a new schedule for 2021-22, the WIN-time period, and with the mix of both a traditional and block schedule— students will be able to engage in deeper learning,” explained Andrew.

“Andrew was a top-finalist in two of our previous principal searches. He was incredibly well-liked by our interview committee, so this was undoubtedly a great fit for SAVHS and the district. His extensive knowledge and experience in K-12 education and leadership, along with his values of developing learning and opportunities that align with each student, make Andrew an excellent addition to the leadership team and as Interim-Principal of SAVHS,” said Superintendent Dr. Renee Corneille.

Andrew and his wife Marissa have two kids, Rory (4) and Isla (2), that keep them busy and active. And big news—they are adding to their family with a baby boy due in October! As a family, they love to spend time together, going for walks and runs, and taking part in activities and sports, such as soccer. Andrew is a marathoner and an ultra-marathoner. He began distance running in middle school, taking part in his first marathon at age 17 to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He not only has fun while running, but feels it's a great way to “clear your head, move through issues, and have quiet time.” He has completed five marathons around the country, and will be participating this fall in the Med-City Marathon in Rochester.

Andrew received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Baker University in Kansas, his masters in school leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and his education specialist degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

Fun fact: Andrew worked in politics for a year after earning his political science degree, but decided to become a teacher after working on issues with education. “I wanted to do it (education) vs. talk about it,” said Andrew.

Please join us in welcoming Andrew to SAVHS and the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District!
