Veteran School Leader Conn McCartan Named Interim Principal at SAVHS

St. Anthony-New Brighton Schools (SANB) is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. Conn McCartan as St. Anthony Village High School Interim Principal.

McCartan’s educational career spans over 40 years, including as high school principal at Perpich Arts High School, Eden Prairie High School, Maple Grove High School, and Blaine High School. His education career started as a high school science teacher, and later included roles as a coach, student council advisor, dean of students, and assistant principal, before moving into building leadership roles.

McCartan holds a Bachelor's in Natural Sciences from St. John’s University (MN) and a Master's in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas (MN). He and his wife have two children, Alison and Ryan, both of whom are professional actors with film, TV, music, Off-Broadway, and Broadway credits to their names.

When asked about why he opted to come out of retirement to serve the SAVHS community, McCartan noted, “I was excited about the great things happening in St. Anthony-New Brighton and am eager to work in a smaller school setting where I can build strong relationships with students, families and staff. My personal mission aligns well with the district and St. Anthony Village High School where everyone is focused on engaging and inspiring each student to thrive.”

SAVHS teachers and staff had the opportunity to do an informal meet-and-greet with Mr. McCartan this afternoon. Similar opportunities for students and families will be scheduled for later this summer prior to the start of the school year.
